Mucho Más Grande – DoWoo #316/365

During our research of Costa Rica, prior to moving here, we understood the country is very green energy conscious.  The lake which we face is part of a significant hydro-electric project. Then surrounding this specific area are loads of wind turbines.   We see them no matter which way we drive.  In getting to know our neighbour – it turns out he works for the group who manage the wind turbines which surround the Tilarán area where we reside.

DSCF0316We were invited to come and check out their operation. Hard hats and the appropriate outer gear were a must.  A huge “gracias” to Melvin for his time, showing us around and arranging for such a great tour.

There are many more than we can see from the road – sometimes that’s all you can see on the ridges.  Turns out the smallest ones are 20 metres high, the ones which are a bit newer are 40 metres tall and the newest ones are…wait for it…80 metres.  The wind today was 47 km/hour – which supposedly is considered a “low” wind.

The largest ones appear to have blades at least 40 metres and we were informed the blades were built straight…but as you can see, with the force of the wind, they no longer are.

I observe that without something for a point of reference, what looks big…may actually be much much bigger! Mucho Más Grande!

And like our own challenges and hardships, perspectives and a point of reference allows us to sometimes remeasure. Thanks for the reminder.

Every father should experience standing atop a windblown mountain with his son. I am ever grateful for what the Master Key experience has presented to us.
Thank you Carolynn for inspiring us with each post.
