Was speaking with someone today about our network marketing business when she made reference to how she felt when someone else got up at an event who had reached a certain goal – and she had not; or someone had got all the initial starting perks – and she may not have. I immediately was reminded of the advice given to me by a recovering alcoholic – “It’s OK to identify with others; just don’t compare.” I shared the advice I had been given.

There will be a time when someone stands up to be acknowledged for having successfully reached their goals. Be supportive and cheer for them. There will be a time when someone is not able to stand up to be acknowledged as they have not reached their goal as yet. Be supportive and cheer for them.
Every person who stands up to be acknowledged was once seated. Every person who remains seated will at some point stand up – either to be acknowledged or walk away – their choice. We are in fact both of these people at all times.
However, neither of these other people standing or sitting has any bearing on our journey. Recognizing where we are, identifying with those who have reached their goals, identifying with those who have not – allows us to clearly see where we are, and what we wish to do to be where we want to be. That is all.
No comparison required. No beating oneself up for having not “got there yet”. It does not have any bearing on any positive aspect of our existence or how we relate to the other person. Relish in where you are. Aspire to be all that you wish to be. Identify with others and embrace their journey as their own. Now embrace yours as it is meant to be at this singular moment in time.
